Although a lot of my work is with women, I thoroughly enjoy working with teenage girls. I get these years are tricky for both the parent and the teen. Teens transition into a whole new place of unfamiliarity while seeking their sense of independence and identity. For some parents, this is a STRUGGLE. Parenting approaches need to be shifted, communication is a priority and the bond is desperate to be re-established. The group of teenage girls I am most familiar working with, are those who have experienced a trauma of some sort. I am trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT is effective and not only treats trauma, but aids in the development of a connected relationship, as the parent is incorporated into sessions.
So, if you have a teenage girl who has experienced a past hurt and is carrying it into her teenage years, let’s not complicate this tricky time period more. Let’s team up and find ways to bring relief so your teen can thrive and work towards a secure sense of self.
